The Rising Waters

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

“I sketched this shortly after the devastation of the floods hit the town I live in and surrounding areas. There really isn’t any words to describe the intense and heartbreaking experience of driving through your own town and it looking like a third world country. People’s entire contents of what they owned in piles on the sides of the roads, roads like they had been hit by an earthquake and debri and cars floating around like leaves in the water everywhere. What an intense year, one I’ll definitely never forget, having Covid then watching those around me lose everything they own in rising waters… This is why a picture says a thousand words….”

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
