Invasion Day, Survival Day, or Day of Mourning is commemorated annually on this day, the 26th of January, the same day that many people celebrate as so-called ‘Australia Day’. Today, and every single day, I stand in acknowledgment of the stolen land I live and work upon of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations. I feel the weight of this history and recognise today as a day of mourning for our First Nations people—a time to reflect, to grieve, and to honour those whose lives and cultures have been so deeply impacted. This land has always been, and will forever be, the rightful home of Aboriginal peoples.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
