Self-Harm Awareness Month

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

March is Self-Harm Awareness Month. Promoting awareness is a crucial step in prevention. By increasing your understanding of self-harming behaviours, you can better support someone who may be in need.

Wearing the national ribbon for self-harm awareness can be a meaningful way to demonstrate support. Consider incorporating an orange ribbon into your attire or wearing it around your wrist to signify your openness and willingness to engage in conversations with those who may need someone to talk to.

While people who self-harm may benefit significantly from supportive friendships and reliable support systems, it is essential for them to also seek assistance from a qualified professional. If you or someone you know is struggling with self-harm, please encourage them to consult with a mental health professional who can provide the necessary support needed.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
