Respect Pronouns

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

“Transgender and non-binary youth who have their pronouns respected by most people in their lives are 50% less likely to attempt suicide” - The Trevor Project, a non-profit organisation dedicated to LGBTQIA+ youth suicide prevention. This finding is from their national survey, which captured the experiences of nearly 34,000 LGBTQIA people ages 13-24. When they say “using correct pronouns is suicide prevention” they couldn’t be more serious.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
