“When I was making it I was reflecting on how tongue-tied I felt during the experiential exercise at the “Supporting LGBTQIA+ Folks: Identities & Pronoun” workshop but how we were encouraged to practice and emphasised how meaningful it is to people when you use their correct pronouns. I felt more ready to take the risk of getting it wrong…always being ready to self-correct. The more unfamiliar pronouns felt clunky in my brain and mouth like new language always does. But so worth the dedicated practice (even got an app).
Since your training I have had many more opportunities to practice correct pronoun useage in peer support groups. It also prompted a more curious approach to my own relationship with the performance of my assigned gender-which has always been very indifferent like I’ll-fitting shoes or scratchy jumpers. Unlike the undefined gender model of my piece who is the embodiment of fluidity and owning it.”
