Polyennic ADHD

Writer: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

“Rejecting the double Ds of ‘deficit’ and ‘disorder’ in the label “ADHD” not only acknowledges the latest research discoveries regarding the inaccuracies of this label, but also allows me to celebrate and utilise my abundant attention and high octane energy. Invoking Raven Cochrane’s concept of polyennia helps me to avoid thinking of myself and other polyennic people in a pathologising way. Embracing the term polyennic makes it possible for me to focus on the strengths and challenges many of us can face when trying to navigate a world designed for monoennic people. Instead of policing our polyennic ways of being, I choose to celebrate the unique benefits of being polyennic. As a practitioner, educator/learning facilitator, and supervisor, I also support other polyennic people to find their own ways to thrive.” - Dr Gávi Ansara

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
