Outsider

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

"As a kid, I grew up in a religious household, not forceful but grandparents would always say "Jesus loves me". When moving to a catholic primary school, if you weren't catholic, you were an outsider. Even being in a Christian religion didn't favour you, like myself. The only faith we were taught was that of god and if Catholicism wasn't who you followed, then you were outcast."

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
