Neurosparkly

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

Sandhya Menon from @onwardsandupwardspsych expressed her discomfort regarding the term “neurospicy” some time ago now, yet it continues to be used by so many. She noted that, in her experience as a woman growing up in India, being labeled as “spicy” was never perceived positively. As someone who benefits from white Anglophone privilege and settler privilege, I believe it is crucial to listen to the perspectives of those from other cultures that are affected negatively by language and make changes. I feel that “neurosparkly” is a significantly more positive and affirming term. Let’s make the switch!

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
