This book on mutual aid simplifies key concepts, presenting real-world examples and practical tips for organising and running meetings. It critiques issues within non-profit and charitable organisations and clearly defines differences.

The book illustrates the necessity of mutual aid in response to ongoing crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate disasters, mass incarceration, immigration enforcement, gender violence, and wealth inequality, especially as governments fail to address these issues.

It also emphasises how ordinary people are creatively sharing resources to support their communities through mutual aid, which complements demands for the sort of transformative social change we really need. It’s given me ideas for future projects.

Additionally, it offers a grassroots perspective on mutual aid’s historical role in social movements and provides tools for effective group work, decision-making, conflict resolution and burnout management. Which are all really important to keep mutual aid projects going.
