Life isn’t Binary

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

Many aspects of societal thinking tend to be characterised by a rigid and binary approach, categorising concepts as good or bad, right or wrong, or viewing outcomes as successes or failures.

This book challenges this limited perspective by exploring how non-binary methods of thinking can be applied across various facets of life, thereby providing new and enriched ways of understanding ourselves and our relationships with others.

Drawing on experiences related to bisexuality and non-binary gender identities, this book examines the limitations of binary thinking in relation to our relationships, bodies, emotions, well-being, and sense of identity.

This book also presents a variety of practices designed to promote more non-binary, inclusive, or nuanced ways of thinking. To help us to think in more non-binary, both/and, or in uncertain ways.

This original and thought-provoking guide invites readers to reflect on their perceptions of the world and encourages an exploration of how we navigate and redefine society’s binary constructs.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
