5 STARTING POINTS TO FOLLOW FOR LGBTQIA+ AFFIRMING PRACTICE*

1. Ask for pronouns and preferred names on intake forms or when first meeting

2. Do not assume gender, sexuality or relationship structures, instead ask

3. Use inclusive language that conveys gender equality and is gender neutral

4. Do not expect anyone to educate you, instead take things to your supervisor

5. If you make a mistake, just apologise, correct yourself, and then move on

*Ongoing professional development and supervision is required

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
