Dread

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

“Dread. That looming sense of ill intent, past regrets. A choking, suffocating haze, one that never lets go no matter how hard you thrash and squirm. The only way to release, is to purge them with gentility, to carefully pry their venomous claws from your flesh and send them off to the afterlife; a grave among a canvas of colour. Spilling your guts onto a page, blooming into roses withering away to their eternal slumber; forever holding what was once within you. There, they're put to rest, to no longer inflict pain or suffering, giving way for reflection and acceptance.”

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
